Spin-off from Pablo de Olavide University revolutionises biomedical research with a promising compound for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s treatment

Pablo de Olavide University (UPO) has reaffirmed its commitment to biomedical innovation through its spin-off, Olavide Neuron STX, S.L., which has recently completed a successful €1 million capital increase to accelerate the development of its promising compound ONESTX‑1.

Founded in 2020 by three researchers from the university, Olavide Neuron STX is dedicated to developing novel therapeutic solutions for age-related neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s. This fresh round of funding—backed by key investors including Axon Desarrollo Andalucía, Anecon Inversiones, early-stage venture capital firm Eoniq Funds, biotech company Biomedal, and US-based biotech entrepreneur Francisco León—will enable the company to initiate clinical trials within the next year.

The global ageing population and the resulting rise in neurodegenerative diseases make the demand for effective treatments increasingly urgent. Olavide Neuron STX is at the forefront of biomedical research, with a distinctive market-oriented project and the academic backing of Pablo de Olavide University—an institution committed to research excellence. The capital raised will primarily be used to complete the regulatory studies required prior to clinical trials and to design human research protocols, marking a vital step towards the potential commercialisation of the treatment.

The company continues to welcome new strategic investors who wish to support this ambitious project as it advances towards clinical trials. The aim is to begin patient trials within the next 12 months to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of ONESTX‑1. Through this spin-off, Pablo de Olavide University reaffirms its commitment to knowledge transfer and to developing scientific solutions that respond to key challenges in modern medicine—while offering significant return potential for investors involved in this scientific and entrepreneurial venture.

The support from our investors exemplifies how private investment in science can not only yield financial returns but also offer a real path to alleviating the suffering of millions of patients and their families, says Manuel Muñoz, a researcher at Pablo de Olavide University and one of the spin-off’s co-founders, alongside fellow researchers M. Mercedes Pérez Jímenez and Ángel Carrión

At Axon Desarrollo Andalucía, we seek projects that demonstrate strong research, innovation, and development credentials, along with clear market potential. Olavide Neuron STX combines both attributes exceptionally well. Its compound ONESTX‑1 addresses an unmet medical need in a growing market, with a targeted approach to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, explains Macarena González, Investment Director at Axon Partners Group in Andalucía.
